The German Knee Society was founded in the summer of 2012 in Munich.
A group of accident surgeons and orthopedists had set themselves the goal of bringing together knee surgery in a scientific specialist company.
Founding members are Prof. Dr. med. Peter Angele, Prof. Dr. med. Rüdiger von Eisenhart-Rothe, Prof. Karl-Heinz Frosch, Prof. Dr. med. Stefan Hinterwimmer, PD Dr. med. Robert Hube, Prof. Dr. med. Andreas Imhoff, Prof. Dr. med. Christoph Lohmann, Prof. Dr. med. Hermann Mayr, Prof. Dr. med. Philipp Niemeyer, Prof. Dr. med. Wolf Petersen, Prof. Dr. med. Michael Raschke, Prof. Dr. med. Norbert P. Südkamp and PD. Dr. med. Thore Zantop.
The company wants to promote the research, further education and training of physicians, therapists and scientists in injuries and diseases of the knee joint. It is intended to combine accident surgeons, endoprosthetists, sports traumatologists, sports physicians and scientists.
The aim of the association is to present the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of injuries, diseases, deformities and wear of the knee joint as well as of the peri-articular movement apparatus in the public, in associations and in politics and with service providers.
