SETOV was born as a result of the concerns of a number of veterinarians who had as a common point their intense dedication to the specialty of orthopedic and small animal orthopedics.
.
It was in early 1999 when this group of veterinarians held a series of meetings with the aim of starting to shape what would later be known as the Spanish Society of Traumatology and Veterinary Orthopedics (SETOV).

These meetings were held during the first months of 1999 and finally on 15 October 1999, when a meeting was held in Madrid, attended by the following veterinarians:

Dr. Miguel Ruiz (Madrid), Dr. José Luís Vérez (Ferrol), Dr. Josep de la Fuente (Barcelona) and Dr. Margarita Ruíz (Madrid).
.
At that meeting, it was agreed to establish, under Law 191/1964 of 24 December, a Society to be known as the Spanish Society of Traumatology and Veterinary Orthopedics (SETOV), on the other hand, to approve the statutes governing SETOV, and finally to designate The Board of Directors was constituted as follows:

Dr. Miguel Ruíz (President), Dr. José Luís Vérez (Vice President and Secretary), Dr. Josep de la Fuente (Treasurer) and Dr. Margarita Ruiz (Member).

These minutes were sent to the Technical General Secretariat of the Ministry of the Interior, receiving the reply and approval on November 22, 1999, date in which it was incorporated into the National Registry of Associations with number 165708.

From that moment it was left Legally founded SETOV.
.
Shortly afterwards, Dr. Ramón Sever (Zaragoza) and Dr. Rosa Dominguez (Madrid) joined the Board of Directors with the position of Members.
