American Orthopaedic Association AOA
Founded in 1887, the AOA was the first orthopaedic association in the world.
The Association and its distinguished members were largely responsible for the development of orthopaedics as a discipline separate from general surgery.
As the only orthopaedic association solely focused on leadership, the AOA demonstrates commitment to its mission through programming in leadership development, academic education, and on critical issues facing the entire specialty.
Membership in the AOA blends action and honor.
Orthopaedic surgeons who have made a significant contribution to orthopaedic leadership, academic education, research, and in the practice of orthopaedic surgery are selected for AOA membership.
The AOA has over 1,500 members.
