In the 70s, the concern of scholars on the diagnosis of meniscal injury and the standardization of contrasted knee pneumoartrografia gave rise to the first Knee Club Brazil, which years later would originate the Brazilian Society of Knee Surgery (SBCJ) .
In 1979, the Paulista Medical Association brought to Brazil the largest US official in Knee Surgery and Sports Medicine, Dr. Jack C. Hughston, who presented at the XVIII Day of the São Paulo State Interior knee courses the Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology (IOT) of the Hospital das Clinicas, FMUSP.
The participation of Hughston consolidated concepts and behaviors, as the clinical examination form proposed by the Knee Club, which became a model to orthopedists from Brazil.
In 1983, the IOT Knee Group enabled the BRAZILIAN SYMPOSIUM FIRST OF KNEE SURGERY, held in São Paulo, when officially was founded the Brazilian Society of Knee Surgery -. SBCJ During the event, there was the approval of the logo and SBCJ the statutes and the election of the first board, composed by Dr. Marco Amatuzzi (chairman), Gilberto Camanho, Olavo Padilha, Osmar Arbix Camargo and Yoshiki Ohumura. Since then, knee surgery in Brazil began to receive greater eyes of the medical profession, deepening more and more studies in the area and expanding the exchange of knowledge with other countries, mainly European.
