Chilean Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology CSOT - SCHOT Sociedad Chilena de Ortopedia y Trauma


The story of the Chilean Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology of our country, begins to be written when a group of medical specialists from Santiago and regions, united in friendship and in a huge scientific inquiry, are organized to create a space in which to share their knowledge and experience.

The June 10, 1949, under the direction of Dr. Ernesto Prieto, the First Assembly is done to organize the Chilean Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology. This assembly was constituted by the following physicians: Drs. Atalgic, Bascopé, Del Rio, Ercole, Diaz, Bordeau, Brañez, Balasz, Gouët, Morey, Naváez, Norero, Izzo, Mackel, Gebauer, Rosselot, Poblete, Croquevielle, Vergara, Urrutia Salas, Veloso, Briones, Gantz, Priero , Opazo, Ide, Ihl, Jaeger, Grove, Noah and Molina.

The goal of creating a scientific society that fosters the study, teaching, learning and research, begins to materialize in bimonthly meetings where theoretical and practical tasks are shared among its workers, opening a constructive debate that continues to nourish in the course the years in each Hospital Scientific Meeting to be held monthly.

In 1953, the idea to release publicly any files that are presented at scientific sessions with experts from around the country.

This year takes place the First Publication of specialized SCHOT, the Chilean Journal of Orthopedics and Traumatology which until today is the most important scientific publication of the Society. On 30 November 1963 takes place in Santiago, the First Chilean Congress of Orthopedics and Traumatology.

After this event, born various activities of the Company, such as: Conferences, seminars, workshops, symposia and joint meetings.

Today, they continue to hold these meeting spaces where the invitation, not only to members enrolled in our society but also our expertise related professionals, students, universities and hospital centers, both in Santiago and extends regions.

The development of the specialty is creating new challenges for this group of dedicated professionals that have consolidated with much effort this project, who by the end of 1959 in conjunction with the Latin American Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SLAOT) perform the IV Congress SLAOT in Valparaiso and this, the First Congress of the specialty in our country.

The Chilean Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology growing every year and hand with this growth also come new challenges, incorporating Online Education System, the creation of a National Medical Examination of Orthopedics and Traumatology (EMNOT) and proximity to the SCHOT is achieving with the community, are steps that leave a mark on the history of National Trauma and also achieved an important contribution to our country.
