Lebanese Orthopaedic Association LOA
With a delay of a few years, the sixties was the period that orthopaedic surgery in Lebanon started to be distinguished from the other specialties, particularly General Surgery. The few orthopaedic surgeons at that time gathered together to create the first board of the Lebanese Orthopaedic Association. They elected Dr. Emile Riachi President of the first Lebanese Orthopaedic Association in 1967 for a period of two. Dr. Afif Nsouli took over and assumed presidency from 1969 to 1971 followed by Dr Fuad Chemaly from 1971 to 1974. One year after Dr. Ramez Awad presided over the Association in 1974, the unfortunate Lebanese conflict broke out and halted all functions of the Association and prevented further elections. The conflict ended in the early nineties and Dr. André Fares was elected president in 1992.
