Portuguese Arthroplasty Register - PAR - RPA - Registo Portugues de Artroplastias
In 2005, during the EFORT Congress, which was held in Lisbon, we were challenged to start the Portuguese Arthroplasty Register.
We accepted the challenge, and a Commission was formed, during the Annual Meeting of SPOT, in October of that same year.
That Commission had 5 years to work and make the Portuguese Arthroplasty Register a reality.
The idea was well taken by the Portuguese Health Authorities which assured us their support.
Then there was a period of debate and brainstorm from which the committee came up with a project of database. In order to legalize that database, we had to submit it for approval to the Portuguese Commission of Data Protection.
After some adjustments, this project was approved on January 2008 (Authorization nr. 89/2008).
We then put into practice what was on paper, and the trial version was presented in October 2008, during the 18th Annual Meeting of SPOT, in Vilamoura, where we had the President and the Secretary General of EAR (European Arthroplasty Register).
