The history of the Chilean Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology of our country, begins to be written when a group of specialists doctors of Santiago and regions, united in their friendship and in a great scientific restlessness, organize to create a space in which to be able to share their Knowledge and experience.
On June 10, 1949, under the direction of Dr. Ernesto Prieto, the First Assembly was held to organize the Chilean Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology.
This assembly was constituted by the following doctors: Drs. Atalgic, Bascopé, Del Rio, Ercole, Diaz, Bordeau, Brañez, Balasz, Gouët, Morey, Naváez, Norero, Izzo, Mackel, Gebauer, Rosselot, Poblete, Croquevielle, Vergara, Urrutia, Salas, Veloso, Briones, Gantz, Priero , Opazo, Ide, Ihl, Jaeger, Grove, Noé and Molina.
The objective of creating a society of a scientific nature that encourages study, teaching, learning and research, begins to materialize in bimonthly meetings, where theoretical and practical work is shared among its assistants, opening a constructive debate that continues to nurture in the course Of the years in each Hospital Scientific Meeting held monthly.
In 1953, the idea was born to publicly disseminate the archives that are presented in the scientific sessions with specialists from all over the country. This year, the First Specialized Publication of SCHOT, the Chilean Journal of Orthopedics and Traumatology "is held, which until now is the most important scientific publication of our Society.
On November 30, 1963, the First Chilean Congress of Orthopedics and Traumatology was held in Santiago.
After this event, various activities of the Society were born, such as: Conferences, Seminars, Courses, Symposiums and Joint Meetings.
At present, these meeting spaces continue where the invitation is extended, not only to members enrolled in our Society, but also to professionals related to our specialization, students, Universities and Hospitals, both in Santiago and In regions.
The development of the specialty is generating new challenges for this group of committed professionals, who have consolidated this project with great effort, who at the end of 1959, together with the Latin American Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SLAOT), hold the IV Congress of the SLAOT, in the city of Valparaíso being this, the First Congress of the specialty in our country.
The Chilean Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology grows year by year and with this growth new challenges also arise, the incorporation of the Online Education system, the creation of a National Medical Examination of Orthopedics and Traumatology (EMNOT) and the proximity to it SCHOT is achieving with the community, are steps that leave a mark in the history of the National Traumatology and also manage to be an important contribution to our country.
