With advances in spine surgery have come a number of treatments based upon the principles of minimally invasive techniques.
Until recently, however, development of minimally invasive spine surgery techniques was primarily focused on issues relating to the lumbar intervertebral disc or lumbar vertebral bodies.
Due to the challenges of treating the sacroiliac (SI) joint and facet joint without damaging nearby anatomy, surgical technology to address these conditions was limited—even though the SI joints and facet joints are responsible for approximately 50 percent of chronic low back pain.
That’s why Zyga is dedicated to the research, development and commercialization of surgical solutions that provide empirical clinical and economic value in the treatment of underserved conditions of the spine.
Zyga was founded in 2008 to develop a novel technology for resurfacing the facet, or zygapophyseal, joint.
This idea to relieve pain while preserving motion in the facet joints became the Glyder Facet Restoration Device.
In 2009, Zyga saw a new need: a minimally invasive surgery to fuse the SI joint, founded on the proven orthopedic principles of fusion spine surgeons have trusted for decades: a true SI joint arthrodesis.
Today Zyga continues to refine these technologies, and is committed to compiling the clinical evidence needed to ensure that patients have access to their unique benefits.
